The Arts and I.T. arm of HCET

Our vision

Ako Hokianga is grown from a solid foundation that has its’ roots in the real wants and needs of the community. We have built on these foundations by delivering relevant and exciting initiatives that our community continually want to engage. We will continue to work at transforming the campus into an eclectic and flourishing hub that aims to eventually house a myriad of arts and technology initiatives.

The Hokianga Community Campus is at the very beginning of its’ possibilities.

We are excited.

What we do

Ako Hokianga is the arm of the Hokianga Community Education Trust that focuses on activating the Arts and Information Technology space specifically at the Old Rawene Campus- now named the Hokianga Community Campus. There is huge scope to instigate knowledge sharing and the vision is to support the social, economic, and educational success of our community through a creative and technological framework.

community opportunities

Aside from learning opportunities, other community opportunities are envisaged such as film nights, community market and making days, artist studios, arts resource centre, a community noticeboard, an arts newsletter, a digital technology hub that offers new storytelling avenues, music making and an online and physical art gallery for our local makers could also be a future possibility. The emphasis is on researching what the wider Hokianga community wants to learn. Courses, workshops, hui, wānanga, and seminars are delivered in various ways that have included one-day introductory workshops, block courses. Ongoing long courses are planned to eventually allow students to achieve recognised accreditation. We are currently looking for local experts to deliver these programs..
